Arthur C. Tauck, Jr.
Arthur C. Tauck, Jr. is the Chairman of Tauck, a travel industry company that is a leading provider of upscale guided land tours and cruises.[1] He is widely regarded as a tourism industry innovator and pioneer, with a career spanning 50 years.[2][3] Tauck took over his father’s modest tour business in 1958, at a time when the company offered just six East Coast itineraries that carried roughly 2,000 guests per year.[4] Today, the company has nearly 100 land tours (including safaris and family-specific trips) and cruises (both small-ship ocean cruises and river cruises) that each year bring Tauck’s customers to over 60 countries around the world.[5]
Arthur Tauck, Jr’s accomplishments include:
- Linking the Western U.S. National Parks by using air and motorcoaches, when the travel industry was relying exclusively on rail.[7]
- Helping popularize helicopter sightseeing in Hawaii.[8]
- Leading the company’s expansion in Europe, with the launch of Tauck’s “Yellow Roads of Europe” series. (Named for the scenic back roads highlighted in yellow on European road maps.)[10]
- Serving as an travel industry leader in philanthropy, through Tauck’s corporate giving and volunteerism programs, through the family-run Tauck Foundation, and through his long involvement with Tourism Cares.[11][12]
Tauck graduated from Lehigh University and is a United States Air Force veteran. He is also the former Chairman of the Board of Tourism Cares, a past president of both the USTOA and the NTA, and a former Board of Director of the USTA.[13]
